After seeing so many pictures of the Bro Sis Banquet, I wonder if I should have spent some time chatting with other people instead of drying dishes in the kitchen after remembering Luke 10:38-42. I wonder if I had been like Martha, trying to have all the clean ups done as soon as possible while not taking time to talk with the sisters, especially Mary, my secret sister for the week, and take pictures with people. I don't have a camera, so I didn't need to take pictures, but I think by just focusing on doing clean ups I might have missed out on enjoying the end of Bro Sis week. Relaxing for a bit at the end of the banquet might have also helped me feel less drained from the banquet and enjoy the company of the sisters more.
I did make time during the banquet to talk to sisters every once in a while, especially in the small breaks where nothing was really going on. At those times I was more like Mary in the passage from Luke, who decided to talk with Jesus for a bit instead of worrying about all the preparations they had to do for the meal.
Although I think another reason why I somewhat regret not taking pictures at the end of the banquet is because I want to see more pictures of myself in a suit and tie with my friends.
Thank you sisters for the amazing gifts throughout the week and at the banquet! Great job guys for throwing a fun and delicious banquet yesterday!
i agree. as i also noticed there are few pictures of me too...but i really loved the cooking team. we sang so many disney songs in the kitchen it was fun.
ReplyDeleteThough i did bond a lot w/ the cooking crew, unlike you i didnt get time to go around to talk to the sisters...very reverse of what im supposed to do especially. oh well. there is time, always time.
You have done well though, and continue to keep on going!!!
i think that in the passage Jesus is telling us to not worry so much about worldly things when we ought to be focused more on him. think about it this way: Martha was worried about propriety and appearing a good host for Jesus, while Mary realized that what Jesus had to offer meant more than that service.
ReplyDeleteMartha believed that it was more important to increase her status by serving. This is shown when she selfishly points out to Jesus that Mary is not helping her, in which statement Martha attempts to both increase her standing with Jesus (by pointing out that she is doing what she considers the right thing) and decrease Mary's. This is why Jesus responds by saying that Mary has chosen the portion that will not be taken away, meaning that Mary has chosen to gain the love of Jesus, by submitting to him, instead of the love of men, which is respect and social standing.
In any case, I think that if you serve out of love for your sisters and and for Christ, then you won't do wrong. If this means that you dried dishes, then so be it. If this means that you socialized all night, then so be it. Jesus cares about what is in our hearts as we act, instead of men who care about how we act regardless of what is in our hearts.
we appreciate the cooks and the people who set/cleaned up, Ingold!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for working so hard in the back! The guys were really proud that clean up was quicker this year.
ReplyDeleteI can take pictures of you in a suit and tie whenever you want :) You should go to the formal!
